"A good book is the purest essence of a human soul."

Thomas Carlyle

Even bad books are books, - and therefore sacred. Gunter Grass

And right now I need a good book to read.
I see you,
JJ

It is a bit late for this sort of thing from Carlyle, don't you think? one could very well have written "A bad book is the purest essence of a human soul." There are millions of 'bad' books published every hour and so there is no reason to believe they are any less the essence of the 'human sou' than the so-called good ones.

a room with out books is like a body without a soul.

unfortunately, i can't say who originally said that as i don't know.

greetings from the edge, cj. i see you have made many changes. what happened in feckenham? what happened to the erotica? you're not a pod person, are you?

Ah, I think every bibliophile knows this terrific quote. I love quotes. Good idea for a site!
